Skiing & Snowboarding at Breckenridge Ski Resort

One of the most famous ski resorts in the U.S., Breckenridge Ski Resort offers over 2,900 acres of skiable terrain, with trails for all levels. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert looking for double-black diamonds, Breckenridge has something for everyone. The resort is also known for its high-alpine terrain and stunning views from Peak 8’s Imperial Express SuperChair, the highest chairlift in North America.

Explore Main Street

Historic Main Street is lined with colorful Victorian buildings, unique boutiques, art galleries, and cozy cafés. You can shop for local crafts, enjoy gourmet dining, or sip a craft beer at one of the many local breweries. The street has a lively, welcoming atmosphere year-round, and during winter, it’s beautifully lit with holiday lights.

Sawmill Reservoir

This peaceful alpine lake is just a short hike from town but feels secluded and serene. The Sawmill Reservoir Trail is a relatively easy, 1.3-mile loop that takes you to the lake, making it a perfect spot for a picnic, fishing, or just soaking in the mountain views.

Blue Lakes Trail & Waterfall

A lesser-known but breathtaking hike, Blue Lakes offers a dramatic landscape of glacial lakes, waterfalls, and mountain goats roaming freely. It’s about a 6-mile drive from Breckenridge, but well worth it. The hike is relatively easy, and the views are some of the most spectacular in Summit County.

Visit the Breckenridge Distillery

Known as the highest distillery in the world, Breckenridge Distillery produces award-winning whiskey and spirits. You can take a free tour to learn about the distillation process and enjoy a tasting of their signature products. Their restaurant also offers an upscale dining experience with locally inspired dishes and craft cocktails.

Hike or Bike the McCullough Gulch Trail

In the summer and fall, the McCullough Gulch Trail is a must-do hike. This moderate 6.4-mile round-trip trail takes you through alpine meadows, past waterfalls, and to a stunning glacial lake surrounded by towering peaks. It’s a fantastic place to enjoy wildflowers in the summer or golden aspens in the fall.

Country Boy Mine

One of the oldest and best-preserved mines in Colorado, Country Boy Mine offers guided tours where you can explore a real 1,000-foot-deep gold mine. You can also pan for gold, try out the giant ore chute slide, or even take a haunted mine tour if you’re feeling adventurous.

The Secret Speakeasy at Breckenridge Distillery

Hidden within the Breckenridge Distillery, this speakeasy-style tasting room isn’t widely advertised. It’s an intimate space where you can sip exclusive whiskey flights and enjoy craft cocktails in a cozy, dimly lit setting.

Take a Scenic Gondola Ride

The Breckenridge Gondola offers a breathtaking ride from town up to Peak 8. The 13-minute ride is free and provides stunning views of the Tenmile Range and surrounding forests. In winter, it takes you straight to the ski slopes, while in summer, it’s a gateway to hiking, mountain biking, and Epic Discovery, which includes activities like an alpine slide, zip lines, and a climbing wall.

Isak Heartstone (The Breckenridge Troll)

Nestled in the woods near the Wellington Trail, this massive wooden troll sculpture was created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Isak Heartstone is a whimsical, 15-foot-tall art piece that feels straight out of a fairytale. It’s an easy, short hike to find him, and a great photo spot!

Boreas Pass Road (Scenic Drive & Hidden Viewpoints)

A stunning scenic drive with sweeping views of the Rocky Mountains. This historic railroad route winds through aspen groves, alpine meadows, and ghost town remnants. In fall, it’s one of the best places to see golden aspens. In winter, it’s great for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.

Hoosier Pass (Sunset Spot)

Just a 15-minute drive south of Breckenridge, Hoosier Pass offers an incredible sunset view at over 11,500 feet. It’s also a great spot for stargazing since the lack of light pollution makes for incredible night skies.

Breckenridge Town Council has passed Council Bill NO.28 that will come into effect on September 27th 2022. This new bill will replace the STR regulations and license cap that came into effect last year. Bill NO.28 will create four different zones within the town of Breckenridge (see image right) that will each have their own cap on number of licenses.

Zone 1 (Tourism Zone-1680 max licenses-92% of total units): Zone 1 is comprised of many subdivisions West of Main Street that are not made up of Single Family homes and intended for tourism. Currently there are 1283 STR licenses in Zone 1, 397 less than then the cap.

Zone 2 (Downtown Core-130 max licenses-51% of total units): Zone 2 is made up of most properties on the East side of Main Street within about one block. Currently there are 142 existing licenses in Zone 2, 12 more than the cap. 

Zone 3 (390 max licenses-10% of total units): Zone 3 is comprised of all properties not defined as a Resort Property or included in Zone 1 or Zone 2. The Town Council considers Zone 3 the neighborhood zone and where they are would like to limit licenses the most. There are currently 1223 Licenses in Zone 3, 833 more than the cap.

Resort Property Zone (1816 max licenses-100% of total units): The Resort Property Zone consists of only properties that meet the requirements to be a “Resort Property.” 

A “Resort Property” is defined as:

  • 1. A minimum of 15,000 square feet of total resort area that is located on the premises of the property; or

  • 2. A minimum of 7,000 square feet of total resort area located on the premises of the property provided the resort property has an entrance that is within 150 fee walking distance of a ski area lift terminal.

  • A “Resort Property” will provide:

  • 1. A 24 Hour onsite front desk that is monitored by a person onsite.

  • 2. A 24 Hour phone line that is monitored by a person onsite.

  • 3. 24 Hour private security capable of responding to complaints in a reasonable amount of time.

  • 4. On-site housekeeping.

  • 5. A shuttle service for guests

  • 6. Enclosed garage parking.
